Flying Colors Residence

Half historic half Modern bungalow remodel and addition in Downtown Phoenix.

The addition to Coronado Bungalow features 800 square feet of glass steel and concrete with two folding wings at both ends to open up to the surroundings.

It houses a master bedroom suite and a walnut and marble kitchen. We call the flooring “poor man’s terrazzo” as we exposed a custom aggregate mix.

T&G ceilings, a few well positioned skylights and a Jack and Jill master shower contrast with the gritty textures of the historic portion of the house.

This vast and strikingly beautiful desert landscape is the inspiration for the design. The tectonic mechanisms responsible for the landscape, where mountain ranges seem to slide past each other, is emulated by massive parallel walls of the house.

Arizona Residence
The entry to the home is a promenade enclosed by the walls of the 4 car garage to the north, and the walls of the residence to the south. This feature directs the home owner or visitor to the main entry door.
