New student accommodation from Student Roost has received record bookings in advance for the 2019/2020 academic year, welcoming 47 different nationalities who have chosen Aberdeen as their home.

More than half of students who have booked rooms at Pittodrie Street are international (55%), travelling from as far as America, Ghana, Mexico, Jamaica, China, and more.

Bringing a new standard of accommodation to the city, Pittodrie Street features a sleek, modern interior with specially curated local artworks, a roof-top terrace with stunning views across the coast, and spacious common areas for studying and socialising.

The property is the latest from Student Roost, one of the UK’s leading providers of purpose-built student accommodation. Hot demand for the new build, which is home to 485 students, follows the first phase of development which opened last year. Now a total of 618 students will enjoy the immaculate housing at the development, just metres from Pittodrie Stadium.

Kirsten Mackenzie, Senior Operations Manager at Pittodrie Street, said: “Demand has been sensational for the new property from Student Roost, not surprising given the incredible feedback we’ve received from the first phase in the past year. We’re excited to continue building the student community in Aberdeen with the facilities and personalised service that has made us so highly recommended by current residents.”

Mackenzie added: “The student community is a major part of Aberdeen life and an important contributor to the local economy, so we’re delighted to be opening Student Roost’s latest property in such a vibrant city.”

Student Roost’s Pittodrie Street offers six different room types including en-suite and studio accommodation for solo or dual occupancy, as well as 31 specially designed accessible rooms. Residents will also be able to benefit from some of the most flexible rates and tenancy lengths available on the market.

A small number of rooms are still available for the academic year 2019/20 from just £109 a week.

Design and build contractor Robertson has ensured Pittodrie Street has a nod to Aberdeen’s “granite city”, as the land was formerly a Stonemasonry and granite yard. The property was developed by Superscheme, part of the Watkin Jones Group.

More than 150 people worked on the development and the property has created 12 additional new jobs for the local area, for the management and operation of the student accommodation.

Jim Davies, Managing Director of Newmark Developments, part of the Watkin Jones Group, said: “We specialise in creating great places to live that work with and enhance communities. Pittodrie Street is a great example of just that and it is no surprise to us that it is proving to be so popular. We are proud of the product Robertson have delivered for us and to be associated with Student Roost again.”

Gordon Milne, Managing Director of Robertson Eastern, said: “Pittodrie Street has raised the bar for quality student accommodation in the heart of Aberdeen. The complex, delivered by Robertson, is modern in its design and construction and has replaced a former industrial site which was out-of-place within the surrounding residential area.

“Throughout the project, we worked with the local community and provided learning opportunities to Robert Gordon University students and careers guidance to pupils from the nearby St Machar Academy. We also supported social enterprise Glencraft, who provided mattresses to both accommodation blocks and our events at Aberdeen Science Centre attracted more than 400 people.”
