Vienna Architecture Introduction
Vienna is the capital city of Austria and is located at the eastern end of the country. Famous architects with buildings in the city include (in chronological order) J.M. Olbrich, Adolf Loos, Hans Hollein and Coop Himmelb(l)au.

Key historic Viennese buildings include Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral), Schloss Belvedere (The Belvedere), Staatsoper (the Opera House) and of course the Museum Quarter buildings. All these buildings can be visited on our Vienna Architecture Tours.

The city is famous for Jugendstil architecture. Key later 19th century / early 20th century Viennese buildings include the ‘American Bar’, or Kärntner Bar, design by Adolf Loos architect ; The Majolikahausdesign by Otto Wagner architect ; Post Sparkasse buildingdesign by Otto Wagner architect ; and the Secession Building design by J.M. Olbrich architect.
Later 20th century Viennese buildings include the Schullin Jewellery shop and Retti candle shop, both by architect Hans Hollein.
