Inspired by the Olympic speed skating champions Québec, Canada, has fostered the new Lemay designed Centre de Glaces is primed for aspiring and established athletes alike
The new home of the Laval Rocket – an American Hockey League team affiliated with the Montreal Canadiens – Place Bell, designed by Lemay, features a 10,000-seat arena with NHL-compliant ice rink that can easily transform into a performance amphitheatre.
Design: Margot Krasojević Architects. The project is multi-purpose, with an outdoor cinema and a natural geothermal spa, the design intends to reflect the fluid nature and ever changing state of the immediate environment.
Facades: SPEECH architectural office. The project is being implemented within the framework of the comprehensive reorganization of the largest industrial zone in Moscow – the territory of the former Likhachev factory (ZIL) – and is part of the Park of Legends sports and entertainment district.
Design: Mauro Turin Architects. The Ice Sports Center building conceived from the inside to the outside with the ice rink placed in the center, an immense prismatic trunk space that maximizes the perception of the vacuum.
The construction of winter sports facilities is always a significant challenge for building engineers as there are so many intricacies to consider, such as the need for multilevel ventilation. Much depends on how well services such as mechanical ventilation and air conditioning are performing, in terms of both the comfort and well-being of athletes and fans – and the condition of the ice and of the building itself.
