Inaugurated in 1965 as the second largest stadium in the world, the Mineirão Stadium is located close to Oscar Niemeyer’s and Burle Marx seminal works around the Pampulha lake. This building has been transformed into a major Brazil World Cup 2014 venue.

Tottenham Hotspur hope to be able to move into their new 58,000-capacity stadium in 2017. The new Spurs stadium building would be next to their current White Hart Lane ground, which holds only 36,000 fans. A tender for construction is due later in 2014 with building opening possible for mid-2017.

AS Roma unveils the proposed Woods Bagot designs for Stadio Della Roma, the club’s new 52,000 seat state-of-the-art stadium at Tor di Valle, to the south west of Rome city centre. The building is scheduled for completion in the Summer of 2016, with the design being inspired by The Colossuem, the most iconic building in the city.

A new football stadium for Tripoli: the groundbreaking ceremony for the National Stadium in the new sports park, which was designed by the architects von Gerkan, Marg and Partners (gmp) took place on Wednesday 26 February 2014. The ceremony took place in the presence of the Libyan Prime Minister, Ali Seidan, the German Ambassador, Christian Much, the football legend Franz Beckenbauer and the gmp Project Manager, Hans-Joachim Paap. gmp has been commissioned with the scheme design for the project as well as the detailed design.

Located on a 12 acre site on the Andersonstown Road in the west of Belfast, Casement Park is one of the largest stadia in Ulster (at 32,500 seat capacity), hosting Gaelic football and hurling matches. The stadium will be redeveloped into a 38,000 all-seated venue, which will become the largest stadium in Ulster and a regional flagship for Ulster GAA.
