Foster + Partners has won the competition to design Cardiff Interchange, the city’s central bus station and part of the wider Central Square regeneration masterplan for the area, also by Foster + Partners. Bordering a vibrant public plaza, it will be a spectacular new gateway for visitors arriving to the city by train or bus.

Recently, the Swiss city of Aarau, a cantonal capital, has gained its own cloud in the shape of an organically formed bus station canopy with a reflective and semi-translucent skin. The roof hovers, so to speak, above the forecourt of the railway station.

Amazing Whale Jaw: Hoofddorp Bus Station Building

At the beginning of the year 2003 a bus station was built on the forecourt of Hoofddorp’s Spaarne Hospital. This facilities block is located in the middle of a square and is a public area in the form of an island that serves as a junction for the local bus service.
