Villa Tree Castagnola, Lake Lugano, northern Italy

Sassuolo (MO), 12 June – A sculptural, minimalist structure perched high above Castagnola, overlooking Lake Lugano. This is the setting for Villa Tree, a striking residential project designed by StudioGest SA and completed in 2024. The home’s architecture offers a contemporary interpretation of the relationship between, form, material, and landscape.

At the heart of the concept lies a clear, elegant, and technically advanced vision. In line with this approach, the designers chose Cotto d’Este for the ceramic surfaces. The brand, known for its timeless beauty and outstanding performance, offers products with a strong tactile identity that are able to seamlessly connect indoor and outdoor spaces, establishing an elegant aesthetic continuity.

Lithos: One Collection, Endless Design Possibilities

The Lithos collection in the Desert nuance defines the horizontal surfaces. Selected in the 90×90 cm format and with an exclusive thickness of 14 mm, it flows seamlessly throughout all of the villa’s main environments – living areas, bedrooms, bathrooms, and hallways – covering a total surface area of more than 160 m². The result is a fluid and welcoming atmosphere that amplifies natural light and exalts the architectural balance of the entire space.

The same collection in the same colour, characterises the outdoor spaces of the villa as well, this time with the R12 finish and a thickness of 20 mm. Installed using both the traditional method and on raised supports, it covers the terraces, walkways, and poolside areas. An additional 280 m² of seamlessly integrated surfaces reinforce the visual and material continuity between the indoor and outdoor environments.

The possibility of using a single collection in various technical versions, without compromising on function or style, is one of the greatest strengths of Cotto d’Este’s catalogue. This modular approach to design is made possible thanks to a wide range of finishes and thicknesses, an expression of exclusive technologies that ensure stylistic continuity, high performance, and uncompromising elegance.

Wonderwall: Where Decoration Becomes an Architectural Surface

Alongside the tactile strength of Lithos, Villa Tree showcases the graphic elegance of Wonderwall, a Kerlite collection (ultra-thin, large-format laminated porcelain stoneware) that re-conceives wallpaper with the strength and durability of technical stoneware.

In the master bathroom, 100×300 cm slabs in the Ballerina and Blanc patterns create a striking, luminous, and sophisticated effect. On the ground floor, in the guest bathroom, the Fleur pattern (50×100 cm) paired with a coordinated neutral finish, creates an elegant look that exalts contrasts, perspectives, and texture, making the space feel both warm and contemporary.

Cotto d’Este’s Signature Touch for Iconic Projects

Lithos combines the strength of stone with the elegance of rare marbles, reimagined into a bold, sophisticated, and multi-sensory collection thanks to Cotto d’Este’s creative vision. The five available surfaces – each with its own distinct graphic identity – make up a rich palette of textures that enhance any architectural project with an original and refined style.

Wonderwall, with its 19 decorative variants, transforms a wall into a design feature. Its large, lightweight, and flexible slabs, reinforced with fibreglass, combine the expressive quality of wall decoration with the durability of technical stoneware, proving to be ideally suited for humid environments and high-traffic areas, where durability and safety are essential.
