Design: MAXWAN architects + urbanists. Exhibition design for the international exhibition Mad About Surrealism at Museum Boijmans van Beuningen Rotterdam, with over 300 surrealistic works from Dalí, Ernst, Magritte, Miró and others.
Dutch architects MVRDV recently completed Casa Kwantes, a private residence west of Rotterdam, the Netherlands. This 480 sqm property gives its residents the privacy they desire whilst at the same time opens up the house towards the garden and daylight.
Design: PEÑA architecture. Former Kralings Museum at the Hoflaan transformed into a luxury apartment building: the building has three apartments. This one is on the second floor and contains 193 sqm with 25 sqm of outdoor space.
Design: DELVA Landscape Architects. The design for 250 owner-occupied and rental dwellings around three unique urban parks in Rotterdam South, combines urban and contemporary design with the historic charm of the Afrikaanderwijk.
Design: Waterstudio.NL. This Westland Villa has a concrete base that is situated in a dyke. This concrete base accommodates a boathouse and extra functions, like a swimming pool.
Design: Studio Rolf.fr i.p.w. Zecc Architecten. The 100 years old facade of a property in a row of terraced houses, is totally painted black. Both brick-work, frames and “windows” are covered with a shiny black oil.
Design: Mei Architects and Planners. A spectacular new pavilion building shines on the Coolsingel after only two months of construction. The former kiosk once voted the ugliest building in Rotterdam no longer reflected the ambitions of either McDonald’s or the city.
Design: MVRDV, Architects. Rotterdam is to host a temporary new eye-catcher: a giant staircase with 180 steps leading from Stationsplein to the top of the Groot Handelsgebouw, an iconic building in the city’s history.
Design: Ruud Visser Architects. Along the river De Rotte in Rotterdam stands a wooden church from 1930. The church was not in function anymore and was used as a garage for fixing and selling cars.
Rotterdam architecture photos – ‘Wederopbouw’, or Reconstruction, is the term used to describe the process of repairing the damage after World War II. Rotterdam was one of the hardest hit cities in the Netherlands.
Design: MVRDV. The city of Rotterdam, De Verre Bergen Foundation and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and MVRDV presented the design for the new Collection Building. The building with a surface of 15.000 sqm is an open art depot featuring exhibition halls, a sculpture roof garden and a restaurant. The public can see what’s going on behind the scenes in a museum and private art collectors will be able to store their own collection in ideal Museum conditions.
Erick van Egeraat’s design for a renewed Feyenoord stadium “De Kuip” and the surrounding areas, shows how both Feyenoord and the City of Rotterdam can successfully benefit from each other. “The unique brand Feyenoord Rotterdam offers enormous potential for both the football club and the City.
Design: PEÑA architecture. The former Kralings Museum at the Hoflaan has been transformed starting in 2010 into a luxury apartment building. The building contains three apartments with a communal entrance and an elevator that offers access to the upper floors. The Casa K project involves the street level apartment which consists of two layers.
‘Tintin’ Building, Rotterdam, The Netherlands, design by NL Architects. Nieuw-Crooswijk is a residential area in Rotterdam, strategically located near the city center and Kralingse Bos, a beautiful park. “Everything within 10 minutes”. Large parts have recently been demolished and will soon be reconstructed.
Re-use of a former factory in Delfshaven: In the heart of bustling Delfshaven on the banks of the river Schie is an old characteristic industrial complex located which has lost a lot of its luster and vibrancy in the course of the years. The by time grown together agglomeration of characteristic buildings has become in an almost irreversible process of decline by years of vacancy and neglect.
Campus Hoogvliet is a new educational and cultural area located on the southern edge of Rotterdam composed of six buildings encompassing two vocational schools, an art studio, sports building, lyceum, restaurant, retail, and housing facilities.
DUNE 4.1 MAASTUNNEL is a public, interactive landscape placed in the Maastunnel for the Rotterdam 2007 City of Architecture, architectural intervention in The Netherlands – design by Daan Roosegaarde.
