Hawkins\Brown has just won planning permission to develop 103 homes on the site of the former Fisher FC ground on Salter Road, in Rotherhithe. The Salter Road scheme for Fairview New Homes comprises two terraces of three-storey family houses, and a series of four-storey mansion blocks, including provision for Mobility homes and affordable housing.

John McAslan’s Smithfield proposal is ‘sophisticated’, states English Heritage. Save Britain’s Heritage calls the plans the ‘worst mutilation of a major Victorian building in 30 years’. The market halls date from 1883, but derelict for the last 15 years, are facing a controversial £160m plan to scoop out their innards and insert six-storey blocks of shops and offices in their place.
Design: TateHindle. Increased office space and decreased energy usage at refurbished building in London’s New Oxford Street. Despite a whole extra floor of space in the refurbished office building at 70 New Oxford Street in the Bloomsbury Conservation Area of London, energy usage has fallen by 40 per cent.

Design: Smiljan Radic, Chile. Serpentine Pavilion unveiled in Kensington Gardens. The design was influenced by architect Smiljan Radic’s 2010 papier mâché sculpture, The Selfish Giant’s Castle, which was inspired by the Oscar Wilde story.
Updated Images of North London Property Extension. Alison Brooks Architects has extended a nineteenth century house in north London with two tapered volumes that project into the garden.
Architects: Caruso St John. One of the world’s most famous and distinguished art galleries has completed a significant refurbishment, intended to extend the repertoire of social spaces inside the gallery.
This is the first phase in a programme called ‘Transforming Tate Britain’: a refurbishment of the south eastern galleries, the creation of a new schools’ area, a new café, bringing the upper level back into public use and opening up a new members’ area.
Design: Grid Architects and Maccreanor Lavington. Wandsworth Council has approved plans to replace the Christies Fine Arts Warehouse in Nine Elms with a mixed use development including 510 homes and new cultural space.
ACME’s Minories proposal in London EC3 has been granted planning permission by the City of London Planning Committee. The development includes a 20,000 sqm office building, a 16,500 sqm Hilton Hotel with 370 rooms, and an 8,000 sqm residential building.
