Casa CR was born from the unlikely meeting between experience and the will to start over. The clients, a couple in their 80s, decided to build a new home. That alone inspired us.

The site, on the southern coast of São Miguel Island, is defined by basalt boulders, dry vegetation, and irregular topography. Among rocks and brush, the house lands lightly, like a large wing hovering over the landscape. The idea of the wing came naturally. The owner was a former Air Force pilot during the colonial war, and the design of the house became a subtle metaphor for that past life.

The architecture unfolds on a single level—simple and transparent—designed for a calm and functional way of living. A concrete canopy extends over glazed façades that open the house to the garden and the landscape. At the center, a tropical courtyard brings the outside in, ensuring natural light, cross ventilation, and a constant connection with nature.

The interiors are lined with wood, warming the atmosphere and reinforcing the presence of natural elements in daily life. Everything is clear, accessible, and continuous. From any point in the house, one can see the exterior, the courtyard, and the horizon.

Casa CR is an essential home, designed with serenity and honesty, without superfluous gestures. Only matter, light, and air—in just the right measure for those who know how to live slowly.

A Casa CR nasceu do encontro improvável entre a experiência e a vontade de recomeçar. Os clientes, um casal com mais de 80 anos, decidiram construir uma nova casa. Só isso já nos inspirou.

O terreno, na costa sul da ilha de São Miguel, é marcado por blocos de basalto, vegetação seca e uma topografia irregular. Entre pedras e mato, a casa pousa leve, como uma grande asa que sobrevoa a paisagem. A ideia da asa veio naturalmente. O proprietário foi piloto da força aérea durante a guerra colonial, e o desenho da casa acabou por se tornar uma metáfora discreta dessa vida passada.

A arquitetura desenvolve-se num único piso, simples e transparente, pensada para uma vivência tranquila e funcional. Uma pala de betão armado estende-se sobre fachadas envidraçadas que abrem a casa ao jardim e à paisagem. No centro, um pátio interior com vegetação tropical traz o exterior para dentro, garantindo luz, ventilação cruzada e uma ligação constante à natureza.

Os interiores são revestidos a madeira, aquecendo o ambiente e reforçando a presença dos elementos naturais no quotidiano dos habitantes. Tudo é claro, acessível e contínuo. De qualquer ponto da casa é possível ver o exterior, o pátio e o horizonte.

A Casa CR é uma habitação essencial, desenhada com serenidade e verdade, sem gestos supérfluos. Apenas matéria, luz e ar, na medida certa para quem sabe viver devagar.
