The building strictly respects the urban regulations in terms of alignments and volumetric dimensions and, at the same time, arranges the different components of the functional programme in order to optimize the internal circulations.

Block 5 is part of a resort development. The project consists of 8 blocks of 6 stories on top of a ground floor with restaurants, bars and retail. The blocks are placed on a public deck, a new ground level that covers the basement with parking spaces and service.

The Oignies coalmine closed down in 1990, leaving an entire population out of work and in great economic disarray. The buildings, superb industrial monuments dating from the early 20th century, remained.
