Designing the Newark Visitor’s Center meant bridging between opposing forces. On the one hand, there was a need to address the adjacency to the metropolitan center of NYC and its main transportation Hub – the Penn Station.
The proposal deploys the most fundamental principle of the Islamic tradition, namely the sense of unity, to create a new city-level place of worship that is flexible enough to accommodate daily users and large Friday congregation.
The project was the winner of an international competition in which we had to re-design a big area near the center of Turin (Italy) including a new ice hockey stadium for the winter Olympic games in 2006.
