Venice Biennale British Pavilion 2013 UK exhibition
The British Pavilion at the 14th International Architecture Exhibition – la Biennale di Venezia. The British Council will present the exhibition A Clockwork Jerusalem in the British Pavilion, responding to the theme ‘Absorbing Modernity: 1914-2014’ set for the national pavilions by director Rem Koolhaas.

Design: SAOTA Architects and Antoni Associates
“The owners brief was to design a dramatic, memorable house. The house needed to suit his specific aesthetic considerations and have the flexibility that it could be either partially or completely rented out. The client has a discerning eye for striking contemporary design and that, along with the fantastic position of the site lent, to creating an elegant response,” says Philip Olmesdahl, Project Partner.
Dunbar Place Hong Kong Tower, Kowloon
Make Architects complete its first residential building in Hong Kong: Dunbar Place. The 23-storey project was designed for Swire Properties, who was involved in the development of the property, and comprises 53 apartments.
Ethiopian Insurance Corporation in Addis Ababa
Design: Söhne und Partner Architekten with BET architects. The competition entry with our local partners in Addis Ababa, BET architects, was rewarded with recognition. Conceptually speaking – with structural metaphoric relationship – the Insurance Company embracing life and property of its customers is depicted as embracing nature by placing the tower and the podium in a natural landscape.
Spring Learning Center Hong Kong Design
Design: Joey Ho Design Limited. Spring is a newly established learning center for children with the aim to help them achieve their development and learning potential during the crucial growth years. With this philosophy in mind, the designer came up with a concept that would enrich the learning experience — dual perspective. By bringing together the perspectives of a child and an adult, and manifested in the space, furniture and details, it is hoped to facilitate a dialogue and interaction between the children, parents and educators.
Black Barn – Šentrupert, Slovenia
Design: Arhitektura d.o.o. The owner is a successful Slovenian businessman who spends some of his spare time in the countryside. The property is situated on the edge of a small village on top of a hill, and consists of farm land, forest, residential building, barn house, apiary and wooden pavilion used as a tool shack.
Sports in the Sky Towers Singapore Building
Sports in the Sky towers designed by Harsh Varshneya, Khushboo Bansal, Sanjiv Saini, aim to promote social sustainability in the city of Singapore by providing extensive public spaces at height which predominantly revolve around the idea of SPORTS! Health is the most important issue in today’s urban life and should be paid attention to.
Queens Museum of Art Building Expansion
The first phase of the newly expanded Queens Museum designed by Grimshaw is now complete, signaling a new era for the historic New York City building and the surrounding community. Located in Flushing Meadows, Corona Park, Queens, the Museum has now doubled in size to 105,000 sqft.
46 North Avenue Leichhardt, Sydney Residence
Design: Rolf Ockert Design: the site is located in a heritage conservation area that is fiercely protected by Leichhardt council. Being in one of the few streets in the Inner West Sydney that are still largely original in their streetscape, any alteration or addition was bound to be somewhere between controversial and impossible.
Liget Budapest Masterplan Competition
The open, international design competition aimed at the implementation of the buildings to be constructed in Városliget was put out jointly by City Park Property Development Zrt. in conjunction with the Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest.
Vacation Home in Messines, Gatineau, Quebec
A large partly-covered deck runs along 3 sides of the house. It is an integral part of the house’s architecture and provides extra living space during summer.
Multifunctional Sports Centre Randers, Denmark
Design: Elkiær + Ebbeskov and LETH & GORI. A team lead by architects Elkiær + Ebbeskov and LETH & GORI has been announced as the winner of Randers Municipality and The Danish Foundation for Culture and Sport Facilities’ competition for the Langvang Multifunctional Sports Building. The proposal by E+E and LETH
& GORI was selected after a 2-phased competition.
Ljubljana Apartment Renovation, Slovenia
The apartment design by Studio 360 is in the heart of Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. It is divided into living area (consisting of a large living room with kitchen and dining room) and more intimate / sleeping area (two sleeping rooms and a study room). In between these two spaces there is a service part offering two contemporary bathrooms and one utility.
Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen Rotterdam
Design: MVRDV. The city of Rotterdam, De Verre Bergen Foundation and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and MVRDV presented the design for the new Collection Building. The building with a surface of 15.000 sqm is an open art depot featuring exhibition halls, a sculpture roof garden and a restaurant. The public can see what’s going on behind the scenes in a museum and private art collectors will be able to store their own collection in ideal Museum conditions.
International Backwoods Cabin Competition
Canadian cabin design competition draws over 50 submissions from around the world. Young winner Nathan Fisher of Toronto awarded $1,000 and will see his design built on 580 acre sustainably managed forest by competition host; Community Forests International.
Community Forests International’s (CFI) panel of judges faced a larger than anticipated responsibility last week when over 50 entries from around the world poured into the organization’s sustainable cabin design contest.
Bezos Center for Innovation opens in Seattle
Design: Olson Kundig Architects. The Bezos Center for Innovation is now open at Seattle’s Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI). Generously supported by Jeff and MacKenzie Bezos, the Bezos Center for Innovation is a groundbreaking exhibition dedicated to the theme of innovation, featuring multimedia, interactive and hands-on experiences as well as artifacts, images and oral histories that explore Seattle’s creative history and ignite the innovator within.
