The Royal Academy of Arts and The Royal Mint invited architect David Chipperfield RA to design a commemorative £5 coin in celebration of the RA’s 250th anniversary in 2018. David Chipperfield is the first architect to ever design a coin with The Royal Mint.
Chalfont House, designed by RX Architects, is entirely clad in vertical larch boarding which adds a softer more intimate texture to counter the bold form of the building. The larch will gradually shed the applied grey stain to silver naturally over time.
