THE TRUST BUILDING—THE HISTORIC CORE LANDMARK BUILDING IN DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES—WELCOMES JOSÉ ANDRÉS GROUP

The company behind José Andrés ‘ award-winning collection of restaurants has chosen The Trust Building to house its new rooftop restaurant and bar

(LOS ANGELES; October, 2022)—The Trust Building, the historic Art Deco landmark building in Downtown Los Angeles, announces the addition of the José Andrés Group among its tenants. The Trust Building will house a new rooftop restaurant and bar by José Andrés in late 2023.

José Andrés Group selected The Trust Building to further establish a culinary stronghold in downtown Los Angeles, elevating the appeal and demand for innovative hospitality experiences. This significant move further drives the city’s cultural rebound as José and his team of innovators push creativity forward in the hospitality industry, philanthropy, and beyond.

“We are making a clear commitment to continue our investment in the West Coast as we bring our culinary expertise, restaurant and media teams to Downtown Los Angeles,” shared José Andrés Group President Sam Bakhshandehpour. “The Trust Building is a beautiful historic property where we have the opportunity to not only build community by creating incredible culinary anchors but to also invest in the future of the neighborhoods in which we reside – as we have done at the Grand LA in Downtown Los Angeles, the Penn Quarter in DC and the Flower District in Nomad, NYC, to name a few.”

The move builds upon José Andrés Group’s recent growth in DTLA, which in 2023 will introduce Bazaar Meat and earlier this year introduced five original concepts at Conrad Los Angeles within The Grand LA, designed by the legendary architect Frank Gehry. There, JAG debuted two new restaurants: San Laurel, featuring the flavors of Spain as seen through a California lens, and Agua Viva, a chic rooftop restaurant with beach club vibes, which features Latin and Asian flavors.

The historic Art Deco building on Spring Street will house the José Andrés Restaurant (JAR) group including global support and the newly created José Andrés Media (JAM) division, which explores the ways that food connects us all: our shared food history and food future. Plans for a forthcoming restaurant and bar by José Andrés Group are currently being developed and will occupy the rooftop of The Trust Building aimed to debut Fall 2023.

“This is a milestone for downtown Los Angeles and our city’s rebounding restaurant and creative economy. The opportunity to welcome such an accomplished leader as José Andrés to The Trust Building truly solidifies the city’s bright future,” says Rising Realty Partners Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer Christopher Rising.

An iconic property with a unique history, The Trust Building was built in 1928 with Art Deco details that make it a beautiful beacon in Downtown LA’s skyline. Today, it is owned by Lionstone Investments in a joint venture with institutional investors and Rising Realty Partners. Thanks to a recent multi-million-dollar renovation that modernized the building’s interior, offering enhanced retail, office, and rooftop spaces, The Trust Building continues to bring tourists, residents, and office workers into Downtown LA’s Historic Core. The inherent character of the building provides its occupants with a creative space to similarly evolve and thrive.

The Trust Building, Los Angeles

Constructed in 1928, the old Title Insurance & Trust Company building is an Art Deco masterpiece originally designed by prolific Los Angeles architects John and Donald Parkinson. Now labeled The Trust Building, it has been given a second lease on life and thanks to retrofitting to appeal to modern creatives—while retaining its historic character and architectural details—offering newly enhanced retail spaces, rooftop with city skyline views, as well as expansive creative offices amid its historic 11 floors.

The restoration of the Trust Building is just one of a few currently part of the buzzing revival to Downtown’s Historic Core, thanks to a slew of recent acquisitions and investments. Owned and managed by Rising Realty Partners and Lionstone Investments, The Trust Building stands alongside the city’s Art Deco landmarks such as the Eastern Columbia Building, the Wiltern Theatre, and The CalEdison DTLA.

Several leading names were involved in the project’s redesign: Gensler is the repositioning architect, while Architectural Resources Group (ARG) focused on the restoration of the building exteriors and key character defining features. The Trust Building is LEED Certified Gold, WiredScore Certified Gold, Fitwel Certified, and is the recipient of the Los Angeles Business Council (LABC) 2020 Architectural Award for Preservation.
