Centre for Lifelong Learning on Blackstock Road

People at this Centre come from many different cultures, countries and walks of life. Students range in age from school leavers to senior citizens, but most are over 18, according to the Centre for Lifelong Learning on Blackstock Road.

Many students come to improve their skills for work and are helped to learn employability skills and given careers advice. Some join our Access courses and about 100 students go on to study in universities both in and outside London every year, whilst others go on to vocational training courses in the College.

Many of our students have suffered setbacks in their previous education but with great determination and the support of our expert staff, they blossom and go on to achieve their goals. For two years running we have won regional awards for Adult Learners of the Year.

Our excellent English as a Foreign Language provision is expanding to become City and Islington College’s English Language School for International Students.

We also run an International Students one-year programme which leads to degree courses at City University.

Many of our tutors do their teaching training courses here and stay on to teach and develop their careers, making the most of the College’s many staff training opportunities. Our staff are dedicated to doing their best for their students and take great pride and pleasure in their students’ achievements.

The Centre for Lifelong Learning is a flexible and a fun place to learn. There’s a great atmosphere especially during special College events such as Adult Learners’ Week, Refugee Week, exhibitions of students’ work, trips, end of term parties and celebrations.

The building has won architectural awards and has become an important landmark in the Finsbury Park area. All classrooms have internet access, a ceiling mounted projector, a teacher’s PC with DVD player, an independently-wired video player, and whiteboard.

Other state-of-the-art facilities include a learning centre, Flex-IT Learning Zone, direct access to Islington’s new N4 public library, hair, beauty and complementary therapy salons, ceramics and pottery studios, advice and guidance offices, kitchens for catering courses, a nursery for students’ children, a canteen leading to a terrace and gardens (open Monday to Saturday). and two major artworks.
