Blakes Hotel Shoreditch Building in East London
Kyson have been commissioned to design the new Hotel for the Blakes Hotel Group in Shoreditch, within an architectural environment that distils the character of the area’s rapidly evolving urban landscape and creative community.
Juxtaposed within this patchwork landscape, the form of the building is conceived through a series of volumes that combine as both a sculptural composition when viewed independently and one that responds and mediates when set within its complex urban environment.
A careful yet dramatic intervention, the materiality of the building employs a palette of handmade brick, concrete and steel creating a strong industrial aesthetic that pays homage to the industrial heritage of the area. It does so, however, with a firmly modern approach and resolutely minimalist intentions.
