Tulip City is a 100.000m2 redevelopment project of the former Astana-2017 World Expo site by the consortium of Fundamental Architects and Omega Render. The original site served as a huge parking lot for the World Expo in 2017, which was attended by over 3.86 million people from 101 participating countries.

The Memorial Complex Project in Astana – Kazakhstan Limited international architectural and urban planning competition design by architect Maciej Jakub Zawadzki:
Memorial of Kazakhstan in Astana

The main source of inspiration for the design of this symbolic national memorial to commemorate Kazakhstan were not politics or man-made modern structures. Instead, it would serve as a focus for highlighting the unique natural beauty of the country with its spectacular landscapes which are nowhere else to be found in the World and as place of belonging for the local and outside people.

Kazakhstan

Officially titled the Republic of Kazakhstan, this is a contiguous transcontinental country in Central Asia, with its smaller part west of the Ural River in Eastern Europe. Kazakhstan is the world’s largest landlocked country by land area and the ninth largest country in the world; its territory of 2,727,300 sqkm (1,053,000 sq mi) is larger than Western Europe.

It has borders with (clockwise from the north) Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan, and also adjoins a large part of the Caspian Sea. The terrain of Kazakhstan includes flatlands, steppe, taiga, rock canyons, hills, deltas, snow-capped mountains, and deserts.

With 17 million people (2013 estimate) Kazakhstan has the 62nd largest population in the world, though its population density is less than 6 people per sqkm (15 per sq. mi.). The capital of the country is Astana, where it was moved from Almaty in 1997.
