ASPECT Studios, a leading landscape design practice has successfully set up in the Middle East with the opening of a new studio in Dubai.

The practice has been active in the region since 2016 and is currently engaged in a wide variety of development schemes, master planning and public domain projects in the area.

Built from an international team of landscape architects, urban designers, strategists and city-makers, ASPECT has an impressive track record designing and delivering culturally and environmentally sensitive public realm projects, both in the Middle East and internationally including, large scale landscape strategies, environmental improvement schemes, urban public realm renovations and foundational public spaces.

The Dubai studio is home to a dynamic team led by Rowan D’Arcy. Over the last decade and a half, Rowan has collaborated with a diverse range of design teams from all over the world, unearthing the local heritage, cultures and natural environments of places and interweaving them with client requirements to deliver authentic, meaningful places.

Rowan D’Arcy, Studio Director, ASPECT Studios said:
“I am delighted to be leading the establishment and growth of the ASPECT Studios team into the MENA region. This is an incredibly exciting place to deliver public realm projects with huge aspirations for how nature-based solutions can shape more liveable environments in a post-oil future. Our growing portfolio of work here illustrates our ongoing contribution to that ambition.

“The contribution of the broader ASPECT Studios group to making the team here a reality cannot be understated. We are the product of many years of hard work forging relationships and building a reputation as thought leaders in the industry by our other studios. We hope to continue that legacy.”

As advocates for the positive benefits of resilient urban landscapes on social change, human well-being, ecological diversity and climate sustainability, ASPECT Studios will seek to challenge regional design norms and collaborate with like-minded clients to craft enduring spaces with a distinctive local identity and strong connection to place. Under Rowan’s leadership and the support from his local team and colleagues in Australia and Asia, the Dubai studio is well equipped to continue the momentum of ASPECT in the Middle East, improve public space and enhance natural systems around the world.

Ivan Ross, CEO of ASPECT Studios said:
“We have been working in the Middle East for a few years and a permanent presence in Dubai demonstrates our long-term commitment to the region and continues to build our global perspective and presence. Our practitioners in Dubai bring local knowledge and on the ground accountability, while leveraging ASPECT’s knowledge and lessons learned from around the world to work across a wide range of sectors and disciplines.”

ASPECT’s growth into this market is going to be transformative and beneficial and is the next logical step for the practice after the success across Australia and Asia. Strong collective leadership, a vast pool of shared knowledge, and global expertise from all nine studios will bring forward innovative ideas, responses and solutions for clients to all projects.

The firm’s purpose-driven response to design reveals the essential qualities of place, the landscape, its history, and cultural significance to ensure the creation of meaningful projects that represent diverse communities, cultures and people whist benefiting the natural systems they coexist with.

Rowan D’Arcy, Studio Director, ASPECT Studios added:
“I am so proud by what we have achieved since we established the Studio in Dubai two years ago. Most of all, I am massively enthusiastic about the potential for our work to continue to create indelible connections between people and their environments here in the future.”

ASPECT Studios

ASPECT Studios is a leading landscape design practice, built from an international team of designers, landscape architects, urban designers, strategists, and city-makers.

We are defined by an energized and playful approach, tempered by over 25 years’ experience in delivering and curating significant projects. Over that time, we have established studios in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Dubai and Ho Chi Minh City. With over 200 staff we possess the resources and specialist skills to deliver industry-defining design projects.

Our people are dextrous, creative, technically adept, and serious about designing places that benefit people and the natural world. This focus has seen us create some of the most memorable public realm and natural spaces in Australia and around the world.

A key part of these successes has been our understanding of how people use public space and a deep understanding of the influences, pressures and stakeholders that influence the qualities of these places. The strategy, knowledge and systems thinking provided by our staff sees us continuously bring strategic, relevant and delightful approaches to every project.

ASPECT Studios projects are reliably excellent because we know where we are and why we’re there.
