Gávea Contemporâneo Building

Rio de Janeiro, 2021 – In Rio de Janeiro’s Gávea neighborhood, Cité Arquitetura, led by the architects Celso Rayol and Fernando Costa, signs the Contemporâneo Gávea residential project, with the premise to promote the encounter between residents and the city, meeting the contemporary desire of being close to everything, and at the same time having the coziness of home.

The Gávea neighborhood has the presence of one of the largest universities of the city, many schools, theaters, several bars, and restaurants, as well as cultural centers and the municipal planetarium. At the same time, its tree-lined streets have a certain calmness. So, the architects perceived the desire of create a project that encountered the dynamism and tranquility, what was translated into the architecture developed.

The project was designed to have multiple functions to meet the varied demands of daily life. The integration of leisure areas through articulated doors is the main feature responsible for this spatial freedom sought since the conception of the architecture. Another important element is the variety of amenities offered, such as storage boxes and bike racks, consistent with contemporary living.

In the apartments, the kitchen was placed as the main articulator of space, creating a good circulation, and strengthening the exchange between residents. The floor-to-ceiling windows are also a guiding element of the project, allowing plenty of natural lighting, views of the greenery, and an insertion of the neighborhood atmosphere inside the apartment.

The use of angled windows, such as the ones on the façade of the common floor next to the street, or the brises on the sides of the balconies, are a careful detail. Acting as visual filters between the inside and the constant movement of the street, the diagonals unveil views to the treetops and to Christ Statue. New angles for new perspectives of living.

In the façade predominates the gray color that mimics the insertion in the urban context, while the inclined planes clad in wood are responsible for highlighting the change of angle, of perspective, and welcome those who arrive.

The project complements itself from the façade to the visual communication, with the objective of creating a unique language, articulated and cohesive. That is why the project is part of the Cité360 projects.

Cité Arquitetura, Brazil

Cité Arquitetura is a 9 years old company that experienced an exponential growth. In its first year, it was already working with more than 20 developers in Brazil. Founded by architects Celso Rayol and Fernando Costa, Cité Arquitetura values organization and method in the creation of projects and relies on a multidisciplinary technical team, prepared to design in different scales and programs.

These attributes guarantee a quality control and more synergy in the meeting of the works with the city. Moreover, we believe that the projects that brought us awards are fruits of our understanding that designing is not a monologue, but part of a wider dialogue with the city.
