The New Spaceship
Like a shimmering, futuristic structure, the single-story pavilion sits in the newly zoned school yard of the Johanna Eck School. The students of the integrated secondary school from Berlin-Tempelhof can now use the new extension, which was built as a multifunctional pavilion in the transition from the eastern schoolyard to the sports fields. The previous space requirements were accommodated in the historic existing and main building.

Flowing Spaces in Contrast

Inside the building, the canteen, cafeteria, club room, reading lounge and multifunctional room form a continuous space that can be connected at any point by swing doors or divided into individual rooms. In the interior, the colors gray and yellow play a central role. The bright yellow surfaces of the wooden shelving walls and loose furnishings contrast with the raw concrete wall and floor surfaces.

Shining Facade
The facade material, a ventilated cladding of pearlized stainless steel sheds arranged in a diamond-shaped pattern, is also continued on the sloped roof surfaces. The diamond pattern of the facade was customized on site due to the complex geometry of the building. The material was supplied in rolls and cut and folded in a small berlin factory.
The horizontally arranged, floor-to-ceiling window elements are flush with the outside of the facade to create a flat, clear look. Only a discreet shadow gap separates the frames from the stainless steel sheds.
