Berlin Architecture – Introduction

Berlin is the capital of Germany. There is a wealth of good new architecture in the city, from the revitalised Reichstag by Foster + Partners to the Jewish Museum by Daniel Libeskind.

Key historic buildings include the Altes Museum by Karl Friedrich Schinkel.

Major 20th Century buildings include National Gallery Berlin by Mies van der Rohe Architect, the AEG Turbine factory by architect Peter Behrens, Berliner Philharmonie and Neue Staatsbibliothek buildings both by Hans Scharoun, Hansaviertel Buildings by various architects incl. Gropius and Niemeyer.

This seven-storey residential building is integrated into a row of commercial and office buildings located at the former east port (Osthafen) in Berlin. Its luminous white appearance – grounded and at the same time graceful – makes the volume resemble a steamer.
