RIBA Southwest has announced a shortlist of 19 new and exciting buildings for the RIBA Awards in the region.

Having shortlisted from 57 entries, over the coming weeks the RIBA judging panel will be visiting a range of high quality buildings right across the Southwest; from a treetop walkway at Westonbirt, to the Wapping Wharf development at Bristol, and including a number of private houses and university buildings.

As well as the prestigious Marley Eternit Building of the Year Award, the shortlist will also produce a number of other category winners including Tobermore Client of the Year, Taylor Maxwell Project Architect of the Year, and the Geberit Sustainability Award. Eleven projects are by new and established practices from the Southwest including Design Storey, David Sheppard Architects, Alec French Architects, Invisible Studio, Stan Bolt Architect, Stride Treglown, Brownlie Ernst and Marks and Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios.

The winners will be announced at an evening event at the Harbour Hotel Bristol on 23 May hosted by Michael Holmes, Content Director for Centaur Media, TV presenter and chair of the National Custom and Self-build Association. Details of how to book tickets will be announced soon.

RIBA Southwest regional director Jon Watkins said:

‘RIBA Awards always bring out the best in local and national architects across our vast region, and this year’s shortlist offers quality, diversity of type and scale, excellence in design, and lots of delight’
