HOSPITALITY DESIGN MAGAZINE RECOGNIZES PIONEERS OF INNOVATION
AT ITS 12TH ANNUAL HD AWARDS

NEW YORK, NY (JUNE 2016) – Hospitality Design (HD) magazine recently announced the winners of its 12th Annual HD Awards in a celebration at Cipriani 25 Broadway in New York City. This year, more than 800 global projects and products were submitted to the HD Awards 2016 for consideration.

Nearly 540 projects were entered for the HD Awards 2016 across 20 distinct categories, including Luxury/Upscale Hotel, Spa, Sustainable Project, Casual Restaurant, Student Project and more. For the product awards, introduced for the first time last year, more than 300 submissions were entered in 11 categories, including Flooring, Casegoods & Furniture, Textiles & Fabric, Bath and more.

HD magazine also awarded at the event the Best in Show honor this year for products to Mercury from Preciosa, and for the projects segment, the top achievement was awarded to the Treehouse Suite at Playa Viva in Mexico, designed by Deture Culsign, Architecture+Interiors.

The HD Awards winners and finalists were selected by a distinguished and accomplished panel of industry professionals. For projects, entries were reviewed by: Mark Boekenheide, senior vice president, hotel development, Related Companies; Aliya Khan, director of studio operations, NeueHouse Studio; Tony Machado, vice president of design and construction, Morgans Hotel Group; Anwar Mekhayech, partner, DesignAgency; and Kristina O’Neal, partner, AvroKO. For products, the judges included: Amy Hulbert, managing director of design, Best Western International; Kellie Sirna, principal, Studio 11 Design; and David Tracz, partner, //3877.

“The HD Awards is always one of our favorite events—from watching the judges pore over the hundreds of entries, to seeing the final selections,” said Stacy Shoemaker Rauen, editor in chief, HD magazine. “Each year, the awards provide a platform through which to showcase the best of the best, the true innovators who are helping to raise the bar for the industry.”
