Three of the best new yachts: 2018’s most exciting projects revealed
The shipyards where cutting-edge technology and innovative design continue to raise the bar in yacht design.
A look back at three of the best new yachts 2018 has given us, where innovative designs and cutting-edge technology are setting an industry standard.
As we approach 2019, it’s time to reflect on another incredible 12 months on the water with an array of new launches that continue to evolve the art of superyacht construction. Every year shipyards set new standards for the industry as they combine state-of-the-art technologies with revolutionary designs. Here are three of our favourite new yachts 2018 has introduced us to.
Nobiskrug Artefact
From the German masters who delivered the majestic Sailing Yacht A, Nobiskrug reinforces its position as the shipyard to make the impossible possible with its latest project, Artefact. The distinctive design combines art and science to fulfil the Owner’s desire for environmental responsibility, technological innovation, and guest comfort. When it is completed in 2019, ARTEFACT will live up to its name; an object of cultural or historical interest, crafted by humans.
Nobiskrug Yacht Artefact:
Special features including a DC bus, batteries and a variable speed Electric ABB Pod propulsion system are a first for a hybrid superyacht and, along with increased efficiency, will result in lower emissions and lessen noise and vibrations. Her Advanced Dynamic Positioning System reduces the need to drop anchor while maintaining guest comfort on board and protecting the seabed. Further innovations include the location of the Master stateroom, which has moved from the bow to the aft, and other guest entertaining areas in low-acceleration zones.
Nobiskrug Yacht Artefact – the last word:
Gregory Marshall Studio designed ARTEFACT’s striking exterior and her superstructure blends composite materials with oversized glass windows and curved panels.
Rosetti Superyachts, 52m Supply Vessel
Rosetti Superyachts 52m supply vessel:
Designed in partnership with Giovanni Griggio of Phi Design Lab, Rosetti Superyachts 52m supply vessel concept was unveiled at the 2018 Monaco Yacht Show and promises to combine the capabilities of a supply vessel with the luxury features of a superyacht, all while offering a variety of customisable design options. At 142 sqm, the large aft deck can be transformed into a touch-and-go helipad or large beach club, depending on Owner wishes, all while retaining the swimming pool and solarium.
Below, the doors of the aft tender garage open to convert into a full-beam beach club adjacent to the gym and spa area. Despite its supply vessel status, the yacht features a full-beam main deck master stateroom and a further four cabins on the lower deck.
Rosetti Superyachts – the last word:
Elements of both the interior and exterior design draw inspiration from the structure of leaves, a motif which can be seen along the bulwark and in the stainless-steel artwork that separates the living and dining areas.
Fincantieri project Mirage
Fincantieri Mirage boat:
Another of the best new yachts in 2018, Fincantieri’s latest concept, 106m Mirage, is a result of the Italian shipyard’s collaboration with Dutch designers Pieter van Geest and Tracey- Jayne Canavaggio of Van Geest Designs. As the name suggests, the project draws upon extensive glass innovation that will allow this striking yacht to reflect, and therefore blend into, its surroundings; no mean feat for a vessel of this size.
The very definition of an exclusive retreat, the concept boasts six decks, a maximum beam of 15.2m, and the capacity to accommodate 14 guests in seven staterooms. The sketches promise a chic, minimalist interior, coupled with generous exterior spaces, including a helipad, aft-deck swimming pool, top-deck outdoor cinema and a full-beam beach club.
Fincantieri project Mirage – the last word:
One of the highlights of this impressive concept? A full-beam spa, where privacy is guaranteed thanks to the graduated glass.
