Hiring A Professional Mover Help Guide

Finding one of the best moving companies can be difficult, but it is worth putting in extra effort on the front end so you do not end up in a bad situation later. But doing some research can help save you hassle and time. You can save money by comparing the rates of some best companies.

Moreover, you can avoid any scam by making sure the credibility and reputation of a local moving or distance moving company. In this article, we are sharing some important steps to find the best mover:

Ask for Recommendations

First thing you need to do is to ask your friends or family for recommendations. You can also ask for recommendations from your real estate agents. The next thing is to get a rough estimate of the cost. It is always better to estimate from the company representative despite someone else. Most of the people go for big-name companies but they are not always the best. Moreover, many companies are not registered and made for scamming. So, do not let anyone else find a moving company for you.

Do an Initial Screening

When you get the list of recommendations, search online to check their backgrounds. Make a visit to the Better Business Bureau to make sure that the company is registered and follow all the rules and regulations. If there are complaints in history then never hire them.

Call them for An Estimate

When you short-list the best companies, there should be only three to four names. Now, it is the time to get a binding estimate of the cost. A binding estimate will give you the exact idea of the cost of moving. The original cost should be less than the binding estimate but the company is allowed to charge a binding estimate. That is why; many companies give it free. Rules for moving the state are different than moving outside of the state.

Show Everything to The Estimator

When an estimator comes to your home, you need to show him everything you want to move. You should also need to tell them about the things you do not want to move. If the company find that you are moving more than your estimate, then it will not move your things. It will leave you with fewer choices so it is important for you to make sure that the estimator had added all the things in the inventory. Thee are some information that you must gather when an estimator arrives:

  • Full name of the company and any other name of the business.
  • Ask their contact number, email address, company’s address and website.
  • Ask them about the number of references.
  • US Dot number and license number.

Review the Estimate

You cannot change anything when you and the representative sign the estimate. It is like an order of service. So, it is very important to review the estimate before signing it. The mover will also provide you with the inventory list when loaded in the truck. You also need to make sure that “written binding estimate” is written on the top of the paper.
