Austin Energy Headquarters in Texas, USA
The Austin Energy Headquarters in Austin, Texas, designed by Page, has set a new benchmark in sustainable architecture by securing a WELL Building Platinum certification, in addition to its LEED Platinum and Austin Energy Green Building (AEGB) 5-Star status, making it one of the most sustainably advanced buildings in the region.
Utilizing sophisticated digital models, Page evaluated energy conservation strategies to optimize the building’s performance, achieving unprecedented sustainability across these three industry-leading standards. Key sustainability highlights include:
- Achieving 65% energy cost savings through an efficient building envelope, LED lighting, and chilled beam mechanical systems connected to the chilled water loop.
- Saving 100% outdoor and 74% indoor water by using distributed reclaimed water, which also aligns with the city’s Water Forward objective to avoid using potable water for non-potable demands.
- Reduction of whole building lifecycle impacts by 10%, including an 11% reduction in global warming potential, through advanced structural engineering.
- A 647 kW-DC solar array that serves as the crowning shade structure, generating 60% of the building’s annual modeled electricity use.
- Zero-carbon operations with on-site solar panels, a GreenChoice subscription, and purchased carbon offsets.
- Achieving a modeled Energy Use Intensity (EUI) of less than 16 kBTU/sf
