Amsterdam’s Centraal Station is currently undergoing a drastic transformation, and will become the centrepiece of the city’s plan to reconnect neighbourhood clusters through the restructuring of public transportation systems.
The station was built by the contractor Philipp Holzmann with construction starting in 1883. The Central-Bahnhof Frankfurt was finally opened on 18 August 1888. Right on the evening of the opening day, a train ran over the buffer stop and the locomotive was damaged

The station received a five-year £100m refurbishment in 2002, which was the most expensive improvement on the UK rail network at the time. There are plans to enlarge the station with two new through platforms as part of the Northern Hub and five new platforms as part of the High Speed 2 proposals.
The Railway Station building was designed by the two teams that won an architecture competition in 1947. It was inaugurated in 1950. Principal material: travertine & reinforced concrete.
Design: Redevelopment by Ian Ritchie Architects. The Neue Messe Central Hall structure is also known as the Glass Palace. This is one of the largest railway station buildings in Germany.
