Design: S333 Architecture + Urbanism
S333 has been announced as finalists in a competition to design a cluster of residential towers in OMA’s masterplan for Bègles, Bordeaux. S333 worked with landscape architect Rémi Salles to transform a 1.5ha industrial site into a new residential neighbourhood with 175 units, recreational areas and local amenities.
Once completed, the CCTV building will transform the usually inaccessible environment of media and television production and give access to the public via the ‘Visitor’s Loop’, a dedicated path of circulation.
Although aspects of this building look perfectly normal – the straight tower, the repetitive fenestration – look at the podium, it has been jacked 36m above ground level. Why? The architects put forward their case which seems based on challenging tradition, “defying an architectural convention” but also on trying to ‘broadcast’ the virtual activities of the city’s financial market by being more visible, ‘glowing at night’.
The new headquarters for the Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SZSE) has been completed in Shenzhen’s Central Business District. The 180,000 m2 building is OMA’s next completed building in China after the CCTV Headquarters in Beijing.
New Court, the new London headquarters for Rothschild, and OMA’s first building in London, has been completed. The 21,000m2 building is embedded in the narrow medieval alley of St Swithin’s Lane in the heart of the City of London
The design of TPAC, comprising a 1,500-seat theatre and two 800-seat theatres, is the result of investigation into the internal workings of theatre. Plugged into a central cube clad in corrugated glass, each theatre shares backstage space and mechanical facilities.
