Collection Building Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen

Design: MVRDV. The city of Rotterdam, De Verre Bergen Foundation and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and MVRDV presented the design for the new Collection Building. The building with a surface of 15.000 sqm is an open art depot featuring exhibition halls, a sculpture roof garden and a restaurant. The public can see what’s going on behind the scenes in a museum and private art collectors will be able to store their own collection in ideal Museum conditions.

Generously supported by Jeff and MacKenzie Bezos, the Bezos Center for Innovation is a groundbreaking exhibition dedicated to the theme of innovation, featuring multimedia, interactive and hands-on experiences as well as artifacts, images and oral histories that explore Seattle’s creative history and ignite the innovator within.

Rabothytta Trekker’s Cabin, Norway

Rabothytta Trekker’s Cabin

Design: Jarmund/Vigsnæs Architects. For trekkers to Norway’s glacial north, a warm and airtight welcome at the new “Rabothytta” cabin to welcome adventurers to the magnificent Okstind glacier. Commissioned by the Norwegian Trekking Association the remote ‘Rabothytta’ cabin has been built to precise specifications to withstand the harsh extremes of weather in the region. Designed to echo the natural forms of its landscape, it is part of a network of self-contained cabins and can accommodate groups of up to thirty people on a self-catering basis.

Design: Mather & Co. The new International Olympic Museum in Lausanne, Switzerland has opened. The museum has three floors of permanent exhibition galleries. Mather & Co developed the narrative and themes and 3D designs of all the museum spaces. The building is the largest centre dedicated to telling the story of the Olympic Movement.

Intriguing Catalan architecture – a confident, expressive building by David Mackay / MBM. The ‘Design Hub’ is located on a sloping site beside Jean Nouvelle’s Agbar tower, and very close to the elevated roundabout of a busy motorway. The site is part of a future park which meant that only a small building footprint would be allowed at ground level with the rest of the building underground.

MAACM St. Petersburg, Florida building

MAACM St Petersburg

Alfonso Architects has been awarded the building project for the Museum of the American Arts and Crafts Movement, MAACM, to be built in St. Petersburg, FL, for collector Rudy Ciccarello and the Two Red Roses Foundation (TRRF).

Alberto Alfonso, AIA, will be the lead architect on the 90,000-sqft museum, which is scheduled to open in early 2016.
