Cultural Centre buildings

Paris based experimental studio Sane Architecture proposed a strong structure and a courageous environemental approach for the new Taichung City Cultural Center. The challenges of the project are strong.

This ephemeral building – which looks like it has been parametrically driven – is envisioned by the architects as a “Cultural Cloud”. It is meant to symbolize what is at once both ethereal and of our age, ancient and futuristic.

For Taiwan’s third largest city, Taichung, the Austrian architectural office submitted together with the Taiwanese partner keyStone architect this spectacular design proposal for a new City Cultural Center in an international competition.

The project is located in the third biggest city in taiwan, taichung. The project was affected by the concept of rediscovering the vernacular architecture of this area and using it in a modern cultural, functional way.

This proposal is strongly based on the idea of a container — a unique vessel that encompasses a multitude of architectural objects, various spaces, and the relationships between them.

The museum and the library are located in two distinct circular buildings that intersect with each other generating a figure eight in plan. Both programs function as independent buildings with separate access and security control.

We believe change or new is not a sole creation from nothing but rather evolution from the past. Designing the cultural center was a task to reveal what could be the image of modern and contemporary Taiwan Architecture.

Taichung City Cultural Center is a project which aims to present the possibility of using local features to protect from the very location itself turning limiting factors into interesting project features.

Taichung Cultural Centre is located in between serene Taichung Gateway Park and bustling Cultural Business District. In such subtropical environment, it constantly absorbs fluid masses i.e. People, Humidity and Heat which flow from surrounding.

Changbin Township’s Baxian Caves was our source of inspiration, for the creation of an ecosystem, a dynamic relationship among the environment, topography, structural intensities, and human activities.

The main purpose of the Taichung City Cultural Center (TCCC) is the integration of the Gateway Park and the best practice implementation of green architectural policies.
