We sought a building to fit within the historic context of the area yet was an unmistakeably contemporary and challenging design, combining classic 20th century style with parametric design tools to create a sustainable iconic CBD landmark.

Design: Jorge Hrdina Architects. The house for a family of five sits on a steep site, surrounded by eucalypts on Sydney’s Middle Harbour. From the street, a low flying roof and strong, horizontal screen reveal little of the intersecting and folding architecture that makes up the project.

Design: Bruce Stafford Architects. This dramatic renovation centres around a spacious internal courtyard defined by natural rock face and lush vegetation. Large sliding glass doors in the main living area enable a seamless flow between inside and outside. The living areas also have the added benefit of glazing on the north façade which opens up the house to the view.

Design: Bruce Stafford Architects. As the house is set lower than the road with living spaces opening back toward the street, a lightweight timber screen filters street views and creates privacy, yet allows light and ventilation to the private living spaces. The house has two living levels; the primary living level opens out toward an elevated view and the lower living area flows out to a pool deck and private courtyards.

B House Rose Bay, NSW Residence

Design: Bruce Stafford Architects. The renovation of an existing house which was originally an 80’s style multi-tenancy building. Only the external walls were retained to comply with the approved council envelope. Views of the harbor and the site’s natural amenities were maximized.

The prime design generator was to frame the various view opportunities from the moment one arrived off the street, by creating a range of different spaces.

Design: Tony Owen Partners. The Jade apartment tower has just been completed in the centre of Sydney’s CBD. The 15-storey tower consists of 27 one, two and three-bedroom apartments, plus double-level penthouses with vaulted glass ceilings. The building faces north yet it has a fully glazed façade.

Elizabeth Beach, a small secluded beach on the mid North coast of NSW, Australia, is a small village with a mix of approximately half holiday houses and half permanent residences. The climate is temperate and the surroundings largely unspoiled. The site is located opposite a remnant littoral rainforest, situated midway between the estuary of Wallis Lake and the Pacific Ocean.
