Science Island is a project in Kaunas, Lithuania designed as an icon of the paradigm between the natural landscape, mankind’s intrinsic curiosity of the complexity of the universe, and the responsibility human have within it by Alper Derinbogaz.
Design contest entry by Architects of Invention for new €25m National Science and Innovation Centre of Lithuania in Kaunas: the most popular design contest ever in Lithuania with 144 design team entries.
Architects: Bread studio. The suggested building will be located at the opposite end of the stadium on the Science Island. This will form another attraction on the island, and allow for further developments between the two anchor facilities.
Architectural firm Arches has recently created a modern, eco-friendly house within close proximity to Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania and the country’s largest city.
Design: G.Natkevičius and Partners, architects. The client bought a site where an old yellow brick lodge stood. Cleaning off the plaster revealed ancient bricks. Because of the historical value of this house it was preserved by wrapping it with an outer glass shape.

The Downtown Tower-k18B is a “harmonious progression of glass volumes” – an 18-storey tower above a 6-storey podium, connected by a luminous glass-covered galeria, according to the architects.
Design: Uostamiescio projektas. On the top of the building the roof cafe with a terrace was designed offering a view to the Curonian lagoon and the Baltic sea. Over the dolphin living space the sunroof was installed, dropping the maximum amount of light into the pool area.
Design: UAB, architects. The Palanga concert hall’s round white facade not only gives sense of lightness to a relatively big volume, but also highlights a valuable historic building by forming a contrasting background to it.
Design: Studio Libeskind, Architects. Surrounded by a new public piazza located steps away from the historic medieval city, the 3,100 sqm museum stands as an expression of Vilnius past and present.
The library is on the outskirts of Vilnius. A relatively quiet and leafy location of the existing university campus is about to change significantly. In upcoming years, a new agglomeration of education facilities will emerge here.
Design: Zaha Hadid Architects. ZHA beat Massimiliano Fuksas, Studio Daniel Libeskind to win design for a new museum and cultural centre in Vilnius. The nternational art building will house pieces from Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, NYC, and the State Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg.

The Swedbank’s new head office building in Vilnius is located in a fairly recently developed but rapidly growing political, commercial and recreational centre of the Lithuanian capital, which was moved from its historical centre to the right bank of the Neris River.
Design: KLAP, architects. The architectural-plastic idea – cube conceptually gives sense to order, stability, strength, rigour, etc. This form best reflects the specifics of the object and creates an exceptionally suggestive and concentrated image of a law enforcement institution.
Design: Paleko Arch Studija, architects. A new triangular exhibition building is joined up to present pavilions. The grand hall is column-free, appropriate for various purposes. Also, a new conference hall, restaurant. Reconstructing exposition square.
