Armada House: British Columbia Residence

Armada House

Design: KB Design

Design is about finding the balance in things, finding the balance in scale and form,” says Keith Baker of KB Design, the designer responsible for creating, quite literally, the perfect home for Jennifer and Lorne Porayko. “That’s the best part of this house: it really meets all of our needs. We love it,” gushes Jennifer as we stand chatting in the sun on the rooftop patio.

Residence Des Grands Jardins – Canadian House

Residence Des Grands Jardins

Design: Bourgeois / Lechasseur architectes

The Grands-Jardins home is located in the Charlevoix region, specifically in Petite-Rivière-St-François, close to the Massif ski station. It sits on the mountainside on a rocky wooded site overlooking the St. Lawrence River. One of the major challenges of the project was to position the house so as to optimize the privacy and the views offered by the site. The home is built parallel to the street and at a slight angle so as to look out over the south and the river.

Blue Hills House: Canadian Home

Blue Hills House

Design: la SHED architecture. Perched on a steeply inclined surface over swamps, the single story residence slides gracefully between the trees and is only hardly visible from the street. As per the occupants’ and architect’s wishes, the house has a dual relationship with its environment; from the outside, it is camouflaged in its setting and is as discreet as possible.

Esplanade Residence – Canadian House

Esplanade Residence 1

Design: Emilie Bédard and Maria Rosa Di Ioia

The client had just bought this un-renovated 1910’s triplex and wanted to make the top floor his own. Inspired by his Scandinavian origins and the apartment’s characteristic Montreal construction, the architect and designer shaped the renovation using raw materials such as wood and steel, peeling away at the building’s envelope.

La Grange Quebec, Canadian Residence

La Grange House 1

Design: MU Architecture. “La Grange”, the new residence of the “Terrasses Cap-à-l’Aigle” development, is situated in the magnificent Charlevoix region. Its architecture highlights the rugged charm of the site while framing the breathtaking views of the St. Lawrence River. Located atop a ridge and surrounded by the neighbouring forest, this large house dominates the site with its two storey height.

The MacOdrum Library Carleton University

The MacOdrum Library at Carleton University

Design: Diamond Schmitt Architects in joint venture with Edward J. Cuhaci and Associates Architects. The MacOdrum Library at Carleton University has re-opened following an extensive renovation and expansion that adds new program areas and doubles the amount of seating to accommodate 2,000 students.

The renewal of the 1960s-era facility brings daylight deep into the core of the building through a five-storey, fully glazed façade.
