DUNE 4.1 MAASTUNNEL is a public, interactive landscape placed in the Maastunnel for the Rotterdam 2007 City of Architecture, architectural intervention in The Netherlands – design by Daan Roosegaarde.
The building is developed on a square plan of 30 m per side for a total height of 6 m on ground level. The North, East and West facades are made of extra-white double glazing mounted on slender steel frames to allow lightness and transparency of the building and to ensure continuous open views towards the park.
Design: Mary Laheen Architects. The new extension is located at the street edge of the site on a busy road leading from the city centre to the west. The limited site necessitated a three- or four-storey building located towards the edge of the existing playground and therefore the provision of play space at roof level.
