Operational Technology Co-Creation Space near Milton Keynes

24th of January 2022 – The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) is pleased to announce the launch of a new competition to design an Operational Technology Co-Creation Space near Milton Keynes, as part of the National Security Technology and Innovation Exchange (NSTIx) Co Creation Network.

As part of NSTIx’s wider agenda of promoting Science, Technology and Innovation for use in National Security they coordinate a network of Co-Creation Spaces with cross-government stakeholders. One such space is to be based within a new exemplary sustainable building near Milton Keynes, that will support the provision of innovative “Operational Technology” solutions for a broad range of National Security partners.

A new Co-Creation Space aims to facilitate open collaboration and innovation to provide solutions to National Security challenges, by bringing together Government with world leading HMG experts, SMEs, academia, industry primes, and business support organisations to co-create in an environment that is inspiring, commercially facing, and above all embodies the UK Government net zero carbon agenda.

Gary Clark, HOK and RIBA Architect Adviser for the competition commented: “This Operational Technology co-creation space competition is an exciting opportunity for an architect led design team to create an inspirational science building and interior that becomes an exemplar for whole life net zero carbon sustainability. This project will become a critical piece of our national infrastructure for science innovation, and therefore its importance will be assured in the decades to come.”

The competition is a two-stage process open to UK residents with a UK passport only due to the security clearance required. Expressions of Interest will be sought at the first phase, following which a shortlist of up to five design teams will be selected and asked to outline their design approach to present to the Evaluation Panel. Following interview, a winning team will be selected, and all shortlisted teams will be paid an equal honorarium of £8,000 +VAT.
The deadline for receipt of applications is 14:00 GMT on 17 February 2022.
