Design Engine win new HQ building for automotive visionaries Gordon Murray Design

Design Engine have been commissioned to develop a scheme for the new HQ building for Gordon Murray Design following an invited competition against Foster+Partners.

The 8,500sqm development will be located close to the existing GMD headquarters in Shalford, Surrey and will comprise 6 buildings to be constructed across three phases, with the Design & Engineering block in phase 1, main HQ and restaurant in phase 2 and the remainder to follow in phase 3. The scheme will be submitted for planning in February/March 2018 with construction due to start onsite in July 2018.

Led by Professor Gordon Murray, whose 50-year career encompasses Formula 1 World Championship-winning cars for Brabham and McLaren and the McLaren F1 Road Car which is still regarded as the world’s best engineered vehicle, Gordon Murray Design has built a Global reputation as one of the ‘finest automotive design teams in the World’ and was established in 2007 to develop an innovative and disruptive manufacturing technology trademarked iStream®.

Gordon Murray Design recently celebrated its founder’s five decades of vehicle design and engineering with a landmark exhibition. One Formula gathered together, for the first and possibly only time in one location, more than 40 iconic and historically significant race and road cars from Professor Gordon Murray’s 50-year career.
