New Life for Hotel d’Angleterre

Design: C. F. Møller Architects

Due to close 1 June 2011 for refurbishment.

C. F. Møller Architects has been selected to renovate the probably most famous hotel in Denmark – the five star Hotel d’Angleterre, which for more than a quarter of a millennium has had its address at Kongens Nytorv in the heart of Copenhagen and has been the preferred choice for celebrities and royals alike.

The main idea of the renovation is to create a hotel that feels like a luxurious private home – and not least a Danish home.

“It is a historic building which is part of the city of Copenhagen and embodies a stylish elegance. We will strive to give it a contemporary classic – as well as exclusive – appearance, “states architect and partner Anna Maria Indrio.

Fewer, but larger rooms

The new Hotel d’Angleterre will have fewer, but larger rooms: The existing 123 rooms will be reduced to 91 The rooms will have an average size of 50 m2 – the largest suite will be 250 m2 ex. balcony. No two rooms are alike – they will all be unique.

The renovation will provide the hotel with two restaurants and two bars as well as a new, larger spa area. The historic banquet room will be restored, making it possible to accommodate more than 500 guests.

Finished in the beginning of 2012

The owner is the Remmen Foundation which originally sold the hotel to Icelandic investors in 2007, but in February this year chose to buy it back. C. F. Møller Architects was appointed for the job among a field of the most renowned architects in Denmark.

The renovation, costing a three-digit million amount, means that this famous Copenhagen luxury hotel will close temporarily – from June this year and till the beginning of 2012.
