2019 Design that Educates Awards Winners
Results of the Design that Educates Awards 2019. Participants from more than 30 countries submitted their ideas.
The international panel of Judges selected the winning projects in 3 main categories of “Architectural Design,” “Product Design,” and “Universal Design.”
In addition, a student project which received the highest ratings from the judges – was awarded the title of “Emerging Designers.” Solarlux representatives (strategic partner of the awards) selected the laureates of the “Solarlux Choice.”

About
Each year, the esteemed panel of judges will select the most outstanding examples. The objective of the awards is to recognize, showcase, and promote globally the best ideas and implementations of architecture and design that educate. The theme of the awards has been inspired by the research called ‘Educating Buildings’ (‘Bildende Bauten’) by Dr. Peter Kuczia. Design that Educates Awards are hosted by Laka and are possible thanks to the partnership with Solarlux GmbH designeducates.com

Results 2019
Participants from more than 30 countries submitted the designs for the first edition of the Design that Educates Awards. The international panel of Judges selected the winning projects in 3 main categories of “Architectural Design”, “Product Design”, and “Universal Design”.
In addition, a student project which received the highest ratings from the judges – was awarded the title of “Emerging Designers.” Solarlux representatives selected the laureates of the “Solarlux Choice.” The Jury’s deliberation has been completed on March 1, 2019, and the Awards Ceremony took place on March 28 and 29, 2019 in the Solarlux Campus in Melle (Lower Saxony, Germany) as part of the “Architecture in Foyer” conference hosted by Solarlux. Architecture in Foyer Conference 2019 & Awards Ceremony 2019 (DtEA)
“Architecture in Foyer” consisted of an exhibition of the results of the Design that Educates Awards, lectures by selected members of the jury, laureates’ presentations, workshops, and networking opportunities. The keynote lectures were given by Amandus Samsøe Sattler (Allmann Sattler Wappner Architects; Munich), Prof. Barbara Holzer (Holzer Kobler Architects; Berlin & Zürich), Prof. Tobias Wallisser (LAVA; Berlin & Stuttgart & Sydney), Paul Clemens Bart & Marvin Bratke (Bart//Bratke; London & Berlin). The Design that Educates Awards (DtEA) investigate the educational potential of architecture and design. The ability to communicate the implemented solutions and features is the main theme of the awards.
Such an informational layer of design and architecture provides an important (yet not fully explored) opportunity for a dialog between the user and the designer. The result—a new type of learning environment—provides a space for the exploration of both the design itself and its relation to the vaster context.
