Like no other style, Art Deco represents a built manifestation of the interwar period’s enthusiasm and splendour. Buildings of this era in London in particular reflect the elegance, belief in progress and assertiveness that describe the modern metropolis age. The soon to be published book “Modernism London Style” will feature this architectural heritage with large-scaled photographs, an illustrated index counting more than 230 buildings, detailed maps to place them, and an introduction by Adam Caruso of Caruso St John Architects.

Art Deco Building in Liverpool – 18 Dec 2012
Architectural charity SAVE Britain’s Heritage welcomes new plans to save Liverpool’s most prominent Art Deco landmark, the huge white Littlewoods building that dominates the city’s eastern approach. Built in 1938 for Littlewoods’ famous football pools, the tall central clock tower and streamlined concrete profile are visib le far across Liverpool. The building housed the giant printing presses that sent millions of pools coupons across the country every week, to player s dreaming of winning a golden ticket.

Award-winning architects, John McAslan + Partners, were appointed to the project in September 2008 following a competitive tender. Their sensitive and creative restoration of The Roundhouse in Camden and the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill-on-Sea heralded successful renewal and regeneration for those two iconic buildings.
