1 Lake Lantern is a benchmarking luxury residence in the heart of Foshan, China. The designer envisions a contemporary minimalist design, allowing the space to reflect its essence.
In this 286-square-meter spacious single-floor apartment, the design aims to blur the boundaries between different functional areas. All partition walls have been removed to maximize the introduction of natural sunlight into the interior. The original layout, consisting of 4 bedrooms, 2 living rooms, 1 kitchen, and 4 bathrooms, has been transformed and reorganized into a versatile space that seamlessly integrates socializing, leisure, working, and living. The flexible artistic lifestyle extends infinitely within the space.
Designer Evans Lee has developed three original theoretical systems, namely “space openness and freedom”, “space mobility”, and “comprehensive space + parent-child interaction”. Deeply rooted in natural elements, these systems can grow infinitely with the changing light, wind, air, water, and sound, allowing sentimental memories and human-centric values to accumulate over time, catering to the preferences of the residents.

DAWN LIGHT
The hallway serves as the initial glimpse upon entering the home, and it plays a crucial role in setting the tone of the space. The wall is adorned with a mountain-patterned installation, while a sensor lighting system adds to the ambiance. As the dawn light filters through, dust particles dance in the air, creating a hazy glow. This phenomenon, known as the Tyndall effect, adds a touch of unparalleled romance to the atmosphere.
Contemporary art paintings are arranged to showcase their pure shape, color, and form. The meticulously balanced color composition complements with the interplay of light and shadow within the scene to evoke a fantastic sense that resonates deeply with viewers, reflecting various emotions. The bright and bold colors inject a delightful and uplifting ambiance for residents.
In this project, a significant number of walls were removed to create a more open and interconnected public space. The previously enclosed rooms now are open toward the living and dining room. Additionally, each functional area incorporates sliding doors with concise lines, which contribute to a minimalist aesthetic and provide a clean and uncluttered visual experience. The living and dining area has been redesigned to accommodate the residents’ lifestyle, replacing conventional TV sets with an island dining table as the heart of the home, serving multiple purposes such as dining, coffee-making, working, and reading. This integration of functionality and aesthetics has greatly improved the efficiency of circulation routes for daily activities.

Israeli artist David Gerstein and designer Evans Lee first met in 2016 through their shared passion for art. This encounter paved the way for numerous artistic exchanges across borders. The artwork, when basked in sunlight, emanates a warm glow and casts captivating shadows. The rainbow-colored bicycle, adorned with whimsical characters, injects a vibrant visual element into the scene. Through this captivating artwork, individuals are invited to immerse themselves in the intricate details of life, rediscovering the innocence and beauty that lie deep within their souls.
One side of the load-bearing wall in the hallway has been thoughtfully designed to serve as a versatile western kitchen and wine cabinet. This design not only meets the functional requirements of a western kitchen but also achieves a harmonious balance between openness and privacy. The kitchen island seamlessly extends into the dining table, creating a unified space for dining, enjoying coffee, and socializing. This layout provides ample opportunities for connecting with family, relatives, and friends. The dining bar, crafted entirely from raw marble with cohesive patterns, showcases a high-quality luxurious texture.
Contemporary artist Bo Peng employs a fictional painting language to convey the essence of sunlight, water vapor, and dust, creating a unique natural atmosphere. It allows viewers to perceive the presence of dust particles, reminiscent of a tranquil spiritual space.

The floor-to-ceiling windows have been elegantly combined with marble, and the desk and fireplace have been thoughtfully arranged to create a coherent and unified visual effect. The space itself is a harmonious blend of wood, stone, and fabric elements, with each element complementing and echoing one another. When night falls, the evening glow and the soft lights illuminate the home, and a natural sense of tranquility and joy fills the air, uplifting the mood of the residents.
Through meticulously repeated brushstrokes, the artist skillfully draws a monochromatic abstract painting with a semi-figurative approach. This unique artistic technique, which seamlessly merges realism with ethereal inspiration, evokes a sense of being suspended between the realms of reality and illusion, where dreams and reality intertwine, and the illusory seems real.

The lighting design focuses on multi-level light changes that transition from bright to dark. In public spaces, a combination of point lights and various linear lights is adopted. This includes local light strips and ground lights, complemented by square wall lamps and column lights. By combining different types of light sources, it effectively meets the diverse lighting needs of the space.
When night falls, the evening glow and the soft lights illuminate the home, and a natural sense of tranquility and joy fills the air, uplifting the mood of the residents.

VIBRANT AMBIANCE
The home gym and living room are separated by the wall and sliding doors, effectively creating distinct spaces. The gym features a curved stainless steel art installation that is reflected in the mirror, creating a fantastic visual effect.
By incorporating a gym into the home, residents can embrace an active and healthy lifestyle. The home gym equipment allows dwellers to conveniently experience the joys of exercise amidst their busy work schedules.
The multi-functional hall is furnished with tables and chairs that have elegant curved lines. The vibrant colors of the artwork add an interesting touch to the scene.
Behind the sliding door lies the kitchen, featuring a built-in kitchen cabinet system and clean countertops, creating a pleasant atmosphere for everyday dining.

DUSK GLOW
Home serves as a physical container, as well as a spiritual haven. The pristine white color scheme and elegant wooden flooring create a warm and inviting ambiance in the bedroom. Considering the living quality of each family member, the designer has designed three spacious suites, complete with private bathrooms and ample storage space, capturing the essence of an ideal luxurious residence.
The artwork 5TH AVENUE exudes a vibrant bustling atmosphere. This lively rhythm may appear busy, but it has the power to invigorate individuals, inspiring them to forge ahead with courage and embrace the richness of both work and life in the present moment.
The intricate layers of brushstrokes and colors intertwine with the delicate wood carving, creating a flowing sense in the texture of the painting. It recalls the views of the ever-changing sky, the ocean, and the stars, creating an immersive experience in the vast universe and ethereal spiritual
realm meticulously crafted by the artist on this canvas.

The designer’s vision for the residence is to create a comfortable space that showcases the owner’s collections. The furniture and artworks that the owner loves are carefully curated throughout the residence, along with the family’s travel souvenirs, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that blends rationality and exquisiteness.
In the daughter’s room, a bookshelf is thoughtfully placed to cater to her reading, storage, and display needs. Green plants and warm-toned lights are strategically arranged around the bathtub, creating a serene and relaxing bathing ambiance.
Research on shapes, proportions, and colors in interior design often focuses solely on technical aspects, while the focus on evoking residents’ love for home captures the spiritual essence. This philosophy has guided ELD, the top creative team in China’s residential design field, to continuously strive to reach the pinnacle of excellence in their design practice.
