Seven Yorkshire buildings win 2018 architecture awards
Seven buildings have won RIBA Yorkshire Awards from the Royal Institute of British Architects, which was announced at a joint awards ceremony with our Northeast Colleagues, and held The Museum Gardens, York, on Thursday 24 May 2018, in recognition of their architectural excellence. The event was hosted by BBC Look North Presenter, Harry Gration.
The winning buildings are:

Regional Jury Chair, Roger Hawkins of Hawkins Brown, said of this year’s Award-winners:
“There’s a huge diversity in the range of award winners this year, from a humble, but beautifully designed Bird Hide, nestled four miles down a single track road in Driffield, to a sympathetically restored and conserved majestic Piece Hall and local library in Halifax, showing that good architecture is possible on many different scales. It’s also great to see so many regional practices on this years’ list.”
Further Special Awards are awarded to:
• National College for High Speed Rail, Doncaster, RIBA Yorkshire Sustainability Award, sponsored by Geberit;
• The Piece Hall and Calderdale Central Library and Archives, Halifax – RIBA Yorkshire Conservation Award.
• Richard Hampshire at The Hide – RIBA Yorkshire Client of the Year Award sponsored by Tobermore;
• Mark Hopton of LDN Architects for The Piece Hall and Calderdale Central Library and Archives, Halifax – RIBA Yorkshire Project Architect of the Year Award, sponsored by Taylor Maxwell
• The Piece Hall and Calderdale Central Library and Archives, Halifax – RIBA Yorkshire Building of the Year Award, sponsored by Artifice Press.
• Old Shed New House, Small Project of the Year Award.
RIBA Yorkshire Award winners will also be considered for a highly-coveted RIBA National Award in recognition of their architectural excellence, which will be announced on 21 June. The shortlist for the RIBA Stirling Prize for the best building of the year will be drawn from the RIBA National Award-winning buildings later in the year.
