Six projects shortlisted for 2023 RIBA Northeast architecture awards

Monday 13th of February 2023 – The restoration of Newcastle Cathedral and Sunderland’s new City Hall are among six projects that have been shortlisted for the 2023 RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) Northeast Awards.

The shortlisted projects are:

RIBA Northeast Jury Chair Rupert Goddard, Partner at Sheppard Robson, said:

“The shortlisted projects celebrate the rich architectural heritage of the Northeast, making positive design statements with a clear commitment to their individual settings. Covering a range of scales – as well as urban, suburban and rural settings – the selected schemes celebrate design excellence, ingenuity and low-carbon approaches with ingenuity and vitality. The designs all demonstrate compelling and legible creative visions, with clear connections to place, craft and the communities to which they belong.”

All shortlisted projects will be assessed by a regional jury, and the winning projects will be announced later this Spring.

RIBA Regional Award winners are considered for several RIBA Special Awards including the RIBA Sustainability Award and the RIBA Building of the Year.
