A simple modern museum located in the heart of a well-preserved historical city, the Soroe Art Museum engages in a lively yet deferential dialogue with its surroundings. Its distilled geometric form, clad in beguiling masonry shingles, speaks to the proportion, scale, and rich materiality of the historic town center.
Dolomitenblick. The building is located on a hillside in the Dolomites, at the end of a residential area. The volume has been developed mainly from its pragmatic functional request to host 6 independent apartments with one common circulation.
The stone façade, its cast iron columns, and an expansive brick wall, punctuated with pieces of wood and metal) that runs the length of the store recall the 19th Century building’s industrial past as a retailer of large tissues, leathers and furs.

The client’s brief was delightfully loose; provide new living and kitchen space for a growing young family and create an open plan with plenty of natural light and high ceilings.
No walls were introduced, instead spaces are defined between cabinetry and joinery items. None of these new items go all the way to the ceiling which makes even the smallest spaces feel like part of the larger warehouse volume.

In spite of the fact that the site for the project is located in Mendoza’s main municipal park, the winning proposal is based on the role of the building in the construction of the city, rather than approaching the project as an isolated object in the middle of a green zone.
