The Ellinikon: A new way of life, accessible to all, is becoming a reality
The first building of the major investment at the Ellinikon is a building for people with disabilities

April 2022 – The plans for the new building complex to be developed at The Ellinikon, which will be the first building of the landmark investment, was presented at an event held by Lamda Development. The event was attended by representatives of the political leadership, the Region of Attica, Local Authorities, Associations of people with disabilities and many others.
The incorporation of a building complex for vulnerable groups at the The Ellinikon confirms that this landmark project involves and supports the entire society.
The welfare of people with disabilities and especially the existence of suitable caring and occupational structures are crucial to them and their families. The initiative of Lamda Development to make the first building to emerge at The Ellinikon a building for persons with disabilities is highly symbolic.
The new building at The Ellinikon, which will house the associations of Amimoni, Ermis, Niki Victor Artant , as well as the Association of Persons with Multiple Sclerosis, stands out for its pioneering, green, sustainable design, like the rest of the investment. The construction cost of the building at €15 million will be borne entirely by Lamda Development.
The vision of Lamda Development goes beyond simply creating a modern building. Itshowcases a new way of life, of higher quality, easier, more open, more extrovert, that will improve the daily life of children, but also adults with disabilities.
It is for that reason that the entire Ellinikon investment was designed, planned, and is being created with special provisions for persons with disabilities.
The construction works of the building, which is considered an international model for Care Units, is already underway and will be completed in 2023.
The event was addressed by the President of the Hellenic Republic, Ms Katerina Sakellaropoulou, who, in her message, stressed: “The decision by Lamda Development to move ahead, at its own expense, with the construction of a pioneering building complex on the site of the old airport, to house all these associations, is an important step both for our vulnerable fellow citizens and their families which support them, as well as for the sound development of the area, always to the benefit of the Greek society”.
The CEO of Lamda Development, Mr Odisseas Athanasiou, stated: “We decided, for both symbolic and essential reasons, this building for people with disabilities to be the first to start with our on-site works at The Ellinikon. This is the promise we made we are here today, with them, to present it to you”.
Representing the Prime Minister, the Deputy Minister of Welfare and Social Solidarity, Ms Domna Michailidou mentioned: “We are now in the era where inclusion is necessary not only as a humanitarian model dictated to us by moral rules, but also as a must have prerequisite for social development and financial progress.”
The Minister of Development and Investment, Mr Adonis Georgiadis, characteristically stressed: “I would like to congratulate Mr Odisseas Athanasiou, because what I was expected was far less than what is being implemented. You gave joy to children who need it. You went beyond all expectations. You sent an important message that the largest urban regeneration project in Europe is not a project that starts with the exclusion of some people, but a work that embraces all people. My warmest congratulations”.

Athens, 20 July 2021 – Lamda Development presented today its plans for the redevelopment of The Ellinikon coastal front and the new landmark at the Marina of Agios Kosmas, Marina Galleria, that are set to transform the Athens Riviera into a top international destination. This is Lamda Development’s second digital presentation updating the public on the progress of the iconic Ellinikon project.
“Connection to the sea is a key element in our planning for The Ellinikon. Therefore, the redevelopment of the coastal front is in itself a stand-alone project that we have prioritised. Our vision is for The Ellinikon coastal zone, which is 3.5 kilometres long, to become the most beautiful part of the Athens Riviera and a popular destination for recreation, sports, relaxation, and entertainment for all, as well as a new commercial and tourist attraction that will give Greece a growth boost,” said Lamda Development CEO, Mr. Odisseas Athanasiou.

At 22,000 sq.m., it will be hosting leading fashion brands, some of which will have their own retail space in Greece for the first time, as well as well-established Greek designers. It will also offer many high-level gastronomy options by well-known Greek and international chefs, as well as a wide range of cultural and recreational events.
Designed by the internationally acclaimed architectural firm Kengo Kuma and Associates, with an impressive portfolio of projects around the world, Marina Galleria will be one of The Ellinikon landmarks, an architectural reference point at the new marina of Agios Kosmas, and an attraction for visitors from Greece and abroad.
“Thanks to its premium location, its high-end architecture, and its connection with the water element, as well as the multifaceted experience it will offer visitors, Marina Galleria will be a new-generation destination, unique by Greek standards,” stressed Lamda Development Chief Development Officer for Marina Galleria, Ms Melina Paizi.
“For the design of Marina Galleria, we had the unique opportunity to combine different elements and materials from the Greek landscape through a modern design approach. Thus, a new typology was created: a state-of-the-art commercial destination, open to the sea, the sun, and the Greek landscape”, noted Mr. Aris Kafantaris, Architectural Design Director at the Kengo Kuma & Associates architectural firm.
The most beautiful coastal front in Europe
Lamda Development’s planning for the redevelopment of the Ellinikon coastal zone includes several iconic landmarks and destinations, highlighting the area’s unique natural beauty and the significant growth potential of the Athens Riviera as a leading, year-round, global tourist destination.
Among others, a new 1 kilometre free-access sandy beach will be created on the coastal front, where city residents and visitors can swim, exercise, and be entertained. Lamda Development’s planning also includes the redevelopment at the marina of Agios Kosmas, which will be upgraded in terms of both capacity and services, as well as the development of two luxury hotels in collaboration with TEMES. Marina Tower, the green high-rise of unique architecture designed by the leading architectural firm Foster + Partners, will also be in the same area.
The coastal front will be connected to the Metropolitan Park and the rest of The Ellinikon’s areas and landmarks via a 50-kilometre network of walking and cycling paths, as well as public transportation.
Lamda Development’s goal is to transform The Ellinikon and the Athens Riviera into a world-class high-quality destination which adds value to neighbouring municipalities, to Attica and Greece, and creates new beautiful, green open spaces for citizens to exercise, relax and enjoy themselves by the sea.
