Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice in Glasgow by NORD Architecture
The Glasgow architects office told e-architect their response to the Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice brief is to turn to the familiar image of ‘the home’ for clues as to how we might consider an appropriate but inspiring piece of architecture. The architects practice envision a family of domestic scale spaces with carefully placed windows allowing visual and physical access to the outside at all times, be it a private courtyard or surrounding landscape context. 26 Jul 2011

Shingle House
This young Glasgow based architecture practice, established for only five years, have swiftly created an outstanding set of buildings. They are interested in the tactile qualities of architecture and in finding simple and elegant solutions to complex problems. The site in Kent which they are responsible for is highly challenging, with fierce winds and an unstable shingle bed. The house they are building will be covered in a black tarred shingles typical of the area and in its interior will feature an astonishing geometry of concrete and timber.

Destiny Church Glasgow
The architects describe the building, “At Destiny Church the primary issue was an existing 1970’s build side annex which was in a poor state of repair and detracted from the character of the church.
Internally the limited budget was used strategically to re-line the existing spaces rather than entirely refurbish them. Consequently an Oak lining board (to reflect the character of the existing church interior) is added to the internal spaces as a discrete layer allowing the existing space to be clearly read against the new insertion.”
