John McAslan + Partners, lead architects of the award-winning transformation of London’s King’s Cross Station, is part of a multi-disciplinary, international design team with Woods Bagot and led by Laing O’Rourke to deliver the AU $955 million contract for the upgrade of Central Station. JMP brings to this project its particular experience in the regeneration of historic buildings as well as specialist expertise in the delivery of large-scale infrastructure projects. The Central Station upgrade represents a step-change in the station’s functional, urban and cultural contributions to the city, providing significantly enhanced passenger connections to trains, buses, light rail and the new AU $20 billion plus Sydney Metro.

Central Station is the backbone of Sydney’s public transport network, with the majority of the city’s train services currently calling at Central Station. This new interchange will perform a critical function, restoring the 112-year-old station and adding an innovative concourse and enhanced circulation spaces. The upgrade includes Central Walk, the Northern Concourse and Metro box platforms, introducing dramatic new architectural and engineering elements.

John McAslan, Executive Chairman, John McAslan + Partners, comments:
“The new studio in Sydney is an exciting development for the practice in a dynamic world city. We look forward to working on the extraordinary Sydney Metro upgrade of Central Station and to developing new opportunities within the Australian market.”
