Shukhov Tower in Moscow

Moscow’s Shukhov Radio Tower is a 50-story conical structure of steel latticework designed by the legendary engineer Vladimir Shukhov. Proposals are in place to demolish this famous tower building. Opponents of the demolition are mobilising to counter this threat to an architectural treasure.

The hyperbolic tower was designed and constructed by the great Russian engineer and scientist Vladimir Shukhov (1853-1939) in 1929 on the Oka River.

The young London-Moscow-Tbilisi-based practice Architects of Invention has received 3rd Prize for Telecommunications Tower in Santiago de Chile.
The concept of this tower suggests the volcano and optical phenomena such as the halo and the sun pillar. The ideas originate with the early modernists such as Rodchenko, Tatlin, Yakov Chernikhov and Malevich.

A two storey commercial block with a single level of speculative office space at the back. On top of the large basement that these two elements represent and their respective underground parking area, are two dark grey towers of monolithic appearance.
