The University of London’s Grade II* listed Portland stone building will feature in London’s largest annual festival of architecture and design, Open House London. It will provide visitors with an insight into the construction and architecture of its landmark Art Deco headquarters designed by British architect Charles Holden.
Claridge’s earned its reputation as Buckingham Palace’s extension around the World War II period. Founded in 1812 as a Mirvart’s Hotel, it gradually expanded into neighbouring terrace houses and was later bought by the Claridge family who owned a hotel next door. Designed by Sir Banister Fletcher this high brick tower has a four-faced neon-illuminated clock. The tall structure forms a strong local landmark. From the early 1930s this building was the European headquarters of the Gillette Company, of Boston, Massachusetts, USA
