This elegant timber-clad, single storey ‘long house’ is set into its hillside setting, commanding long views over the River Ken valley to the Rhinns of Kells.

The principal accommodation sits within a steel-framed structure below a standing seam zinc roof, which is cantilevered on all sides for visual effect and to create additional sheltering. The roof plane follows the line of the hillside, blending into the horizon.

This contemporary Dumfries & Galloway house has a zero carbon rating through its incorporation of high levels of insulation, heat recovery ventilation, an airsource heat pump, and a wind turbine; walls are highly insulated timber framed panels clad in cedar weatherboarding. With immaculate detailing, this home feels particularly light and spacious.
